Kay, so there are like, 15 days to celebrate this, and nearly every day has a significance, so hang tight!

Day 1 (初一) chu yi

People would worship their ancestors in the feudal times, but now it’s just going visiting to your relatives’ houses, and getting these:

Awww yeah. They’re red packets! And the elders in the family give them to you when you say nice, auspicious things! (See previous post.) They usually have to give an even number, ‘cause we Chinese roll like that, but I don’t think them kids are getting very much since the recession. Them red packets are also called hong bao（红包）and you can’t give $4 because 4 is a homonym for the word death in Chinese:（四）si, and（死）sie sound alike. These packets come in all shapes and sizes, and in countries that celebrate Chinese New Year, you can get them for free if you buy stuff from shops, or are a loyal customer of a bank, or support capitalism in general, haha.

Day 2 (初二) chu er

More visiting! More red packets! Women go back to their parents’ homes and say “Wassup?” And if the red packets aren’t enough, we pray to the God of Wealth (财神爷 cai shen ye) to give us money.

Day 3 (初三) chu san

Chill day ‘cause it’s day of the dog! Relax, yo! And nowadays, in most countries, people start going back to work. Aw, man!

Day 4 

It’s the day you perform a ceremony to attract the spirits from the earth and heaven, but you do it in the afternoon. 

Day 5

Throw out the trash day! Also known as breaking the five day, or po wu (破五)

Day 6

Okay, I seriously got nothing here. Another chill day, I suppose.

Day 7

Errbody’s birthday! Also known as the day of humanity, or ren ri (人日) we remember that Pan Gu created the earth and Nuwa created the human beings.

Day 8

People pay homage to the god of the stars!

Day 9

People pay respects to the Jade Emperor, yo! I mean, it’s his birthday.
